How do I analyze a contract?

Tap the Scan tab, then upload your contract as a PDF, photo, or Word (.docx) file. Select the contract type and your role, then tap Analyze Contract. Results are typically ready within 1–5 minutes.

Why is my analysis taking a long time?

Analysis time depends on contract length and complexity. Most contracts complete in 1–5 minutes. Very long contracts may take longer. If you receive a timeout error, try splitting the contract into smaller sections.

What file types are supported?

BeforeYouSign supports PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), RTF, and photos taken with your camera. Old Word (.doc) files are not supported — please save them as PDF or .docx first.

Is my contract data private?

Your contract text is sent securely to our AI service for analysis and is not permanently stored on our servers. Original documents saved within the app are encrypted on your device and only accessible when your device is unlocked.

What does the PII warning mean?

Before sending your document for analysis, BeforeYouSign scans for sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses. You can review and remove this information before proceeding.

How many free scans do I get?

BeforeYouSign includes a limited number of free scans per month. Once your free scans are used, you can purchase additional scans from within the app.

What do the red, yellow, and green flags mean?

Red flags are serious clauses that could significantly disadvantage you. Yellow flags are worth noting or negotiating. Green flags are clauses that work in your favor.

Can I create contracts with BeforeYouSign?

Yes — tap the Create tab to choose from 37 professional contract templates. Answer a few questions and the AI generates a complete, ready-to-use contract.

Is BeforeYouSign a substitute for a lawyer?

No. BeforeYouSign is an AI-powered tool to help you understand contracts, not a law firm or legal advice service. Always consult a qualified attorney before signing any important legal document.

How do I delete my scan history?

Go to the Settings tab → Clear All Data, or swipe left on any individual scan in your history to delete it.
